Pitcairn police looking into rash of burglaries


Local and county police are investigating a recent string of burglaries in Pitcairn.“It’s a serial burglar,” Pitcairn police Chief Scott Farally said last week.“It’s happening all hours of the day. We’re investigating it, which is all we can do right now.”Police suspect that in recent weeks, the same person or crew burglarized five homes when no one was there.

DPS arrests 4 juvenile suspects in Susupe, Chalan Kanoa burglaries


THE Department of Public Safety announced yesterday the arrest of four juveniles tagged in a string of burglary and theft cases in Susupe and Chalan Kanoa.

In a press conference, DPS Commissioner James Deleon Guerrero said the juveniles were responsible for the burglaries at William S. Reyes Elementary School last year and the two burglaries at Mt. Carmel School on Sept. 7 and 15.

Man found guilty of attempted murder for hacking Pinoy worker in Palau


A Palauan man who hacked a Filipino worker here during a robbery incident in July has been found guilty of attempted murder in the first degree and other charges.

Man gets suspended jail sentence for distrubing the peace of his in-laws


A MAN was sentenced to six months in prison, but all suspended except for three days and with credit for three days already served, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of disturbing the peace of his in-laws in February.

Expat alleged child molester remanded awaiting verdict


New Zealand Tourist, Aron Collins, who was suspected of molesting local boys under the age of 15 in 2011 is now finally behind bars for failing to comply with his bail conditions.

The accused was arrested recently after the Prosecution applied for an arrest warrant when he breached one of his bail conditions by failing to appear in Court.

Collins who travelled to Vanuatu on a yacht in 2011 is facing charges of two counts of act of indecency with a young person contrary to Section 98A of the Penal Code Act [CAP 135].

The man accused of beating a woman to death in her Barrigada home in 2012 was caught yesterday morning, more than an hour after he allegedly escaped from a Department of Corrections transport van.

Peter Foster escapes Australia, turns up in Fiji


After failing to turn up for sentencing in Brisbane’s Federal Court on October 24, 2013 con man and self-styled International Man of Mischief, Peter Foster, has reportedly resurfaced in Fiji.

On October 27, Brisbane’s Sunday Mail reported Foster told the newspaper: “I won’t discuss with you how I made it here. I have to get a few things settled … I did disguise myself to a certain degree but that’s all I’m prepared to say. Fiji is my version of Ronnie Biggs’ Brazil.”

Jury trial is Nov 4 for alleged cop killer Siaumau Jr.


Three years after the government charged Siaumau Siaumau Jr. in the shooting death of DPS Detective Lusila Brown on July 22, 2010 in front of the temporary court house in Malaloa, Associate Justice Lyle L. Richmond has finally scheduled a jury trial for November 4, 2014.

Former officer smokes ‘ice’ while awaiting prison


THE U.S. Probation Office has informed the federal court that former CNMI Division of Customs officer Perry Magofna Iguel smoked “ice” two weeks ago.

Last month, U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona imposed a 24-month jail sentence on Iguel who admitted to a charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, or “ice,” on at least two occasions. The judge allowed Iguel to remain at liberty.

Robert Jake Palacios gets 5 years for stealing prosecutor’s wallet, cellphone, keys


SUPERIOR Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja imposed a five-year prison sentence on Robert Jake Palacios, 25, who admitted stealing a government prosecutor’s wallet, mobile phone and keys in a courtroom on Dec. 5, 2012.

During a sentencing hearing last week, Naraja noted Palacios’ prior adult convictions and their seriousness. The judge also discussed his familiarity with Palacios when he was a minor “and pointed out his regret that the system had failed to rehabilitate him [Palacios].”
