Marianas Variety – Brotherhood wins Palau softball championship


CATCHING Jeff Sablan’s fly ball, outfielder John Terlaje prevented the San Antonio Masters from regaining the lead in the bottom of sixth and the Brotherhood rallied in the top of the seventh to win the championship title of the Palau Softball Association Masters League at the Dandan Softball Field yesterday.

Marianas Variety – Simple traffic violation leads to arrest for ‘ice’ possession


JAMESON Palacios Hemley, 41, was arrested on a charge of “ice” possession after he was cited for traffic violations: not having his headlights turned on and not having a driver’s license in his possession on the night of April 17, 2014.

Residents to develop lake entrance, promote tourism


RESIDENTS in the Susupe Lake area who recently joined the Neighborhood Watch Task Force are planning to help promote local tourism.

A week after their cleanup operation, they met again and decided to beautify the entrance to the lake.

Garapan Student Council donates canned goods to Karidat

Chamber of commerce says NMI should prepare students for workforce development


SAIPAN Chamber of Commerce president Alex Sablan says students in school should be prepared for the real workforce.

In his message in this month’s chamber newsletter, Sablan said core curricula in the Public School System and Northern Marianas College should include fundamental skills such as critical thinking, customer service, the work ethic, interviews and other related topics.

DPS arrests 4 juvenile suspects in Susupe, Chalan Kanoa burglaries


THE Department of Public Safety announced yesterday the arrest of four juveniles tagged in a string of burglary and theft cases in Susupe and Chalan Kanoa.

In a press conference, DPS Commissioner James Deleon Guerrero said the juveniles were responsible for the burglaries at William S. Reyes Elementary School last year and the two burglaries at Mt. Carmel School on Sept. 7 and 15.

Four renewable energy assistance grants awarded by USDA


Chris J. Kanazawa, state director for USDA Rural Development, announced the selection of four businesses in Guam and the CNMI to receive Rural Energy for America or REAP grants totaling $48,335.

Man gets suspended jail sentence for distrubing the peace of his in-laws


A MAN was sentenced to six months in prison, but all suspended except for three days and with credit for three days already served, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of disturbing the peace of his in-laws in February.
