Outer island mayors of the Marshall Islands have expressed their interest in seeing the Marshall Islands become a destination for super-yachts.

On Wednesday this week, the Office of Commerce and Investment (OCI) hosted, in collaboration with the Marshall Islands Visitors Authority and private business Indies Trader, a meeting at the Robert Reimers Hotel Kibidrikdrik room with outer islands mayors and key government agencies to discuss the potential of creating a “blanket outer island permit” in advance of five super-yachts planning to tour the Marshall Islands over the next year.

Marshall Islands primed for climate fight for survival


The tiny coral islands, seemingly idyllic, are slowly sinking into the ocean as sea levels rise. A 1.5C increase in global temperatures could make the islands virtually uninhabitable. So far, the planet has warmed by around 0.8C, and scientists warn that the CO2 already emitted means we’re already locked in for more.
