Marianas Variety – Palau to receive $5 million from UAE for renewable energy projects


Palau’s Minister of Finance, Elbuchel Sadang, returned recently from the United Arab Emirates where he signed an agreement on behalf of Palau to receive a renewable energy project valued at up to $5 million.

With a population of 21,000 living in the islands’ 16 states, the island republic does live up to the Greek meaning of the name of the cultural grouping it belongs to, that of Micronesia. However being tiny does not matter when it comes to marine conservation or in the protection of the environment. In fact in the sphere of sustainable development, the republic of Palau is a giant.

Haiyan victims in Palau need help


In addition to rallying to help victims of Supertyphoon Haiyan in the Philippines, efforts also continue to aid the people of Kayangel, an island state in Palau that lost homes, schools, government offices and its clinic to the superstorm.

Motorists can give aid during a boot drive from 4 to 6 p.m. this Friday at the ITC intersection in Tamuning and Paseo Loop in Hagåtña, said Alex Kloulubak, chairman of the Kayangel Club of Guam.
