Two injured in robberies: Police seek suspects in Harmon, Sinajana incidents


One man was beaten with a pipe and a woman suffered broken teeth from separate robberies over the weekend.The suspects were all still at large yesterday afternoon, according to police.

Sources who spoke to the SIBC said that the new Police Commissioner was celebrating his appointment to the top police post at the time of his accident.

The Police Media Unit issued a statement shortly after the news broke, stating only that “the RSIPF Traffic department has conducted an investigation into a senior officer, who was believed to be involved in a motor collision over the weekend.”

Police are helping hide PNG’s most famous criminal William Kapis: Commander


A police commander in Papua New Guinea says he’s aware his own officers are assisting notorious bank robber and prison escapee William Kapris to hide in the capital.

William Kapris and accomplice Raphael Walimini escaped from the maximum security Bomana prison in May, using two pistols allegedly smuggled in by a guard.

A reward of A$50,000 is being offered for information that leads to his capture, but police say the public response has been slow.

Probationary police officers challenged to change the negative public image of the police force


More than 200 probationary police officers have been challenged to change the negative public image of the police force.

Member for Moresby Northeast Labi Amaiu issued the challenge yesterday at the passing out of the officers at the Bomana Police Training College outside Port Moresby.

What has been a trying week for the men in blue turned to cheers and claps as over 240 recruits marched out as probationary officers.

Niue again has local heading police force


Niue, after eight years with a New Zealander as police chief, has appointed a local to the position.

Tony Kose can bring a wealth of experience to the position, including a total of four years in Solomon Islands, working with the Regional Assistance Mission’s Participating Police Force.

Mr Kose says his immediate predecessors, Ross Ardern and Mark Chenery, had been brought in after Niue and New Zealand signed the Halavaka Agreement in 2004, signalling a strengthened level of co-operation.

A fitting description of a man who not only became the first person to circumnavigate Samoa solo in a kayak but did so to fight for the cause of youth suicide.

To the Samoan people, he has lit the flame of war against suicide – with people from Lalomanu to Satuiatua rallying behind him to say “we will not let our youth die from something that is 100 per cent preventable.”
