Taxpayers have until midnight to file their tax returns or file for a six-month extension.

About 18,000 taxpayers, most of whom owe income taxes for the 2013 tax year, are expected to try to beat the deadline, or file an extension to Oct. 15.

Government ‘losing thousands’ to tax cheaters


THE commonwealth government has been losing thousands of dollars in taxes to businesses that do not issue sales receipts to their customers, Department of Finance Secretary Larrisa Larson told House members yesterday.

Larson met with the members of the House Commerce Committee in the House chamber at 2 p.m. to discuss a new measure that imposes fines on those who “willfully fail or refuse” to issue receipts to their customers.

Refund checks mailed: $6M for taxpayers who filed by March 28


Taxpayers who filed error-free income tax returns by March 28 can check their mailboxes today for their tax refunds.

The Department of Administration mailed 2,500 checks before noon yesterday at the U.S. Postal Service’s main facility in Barrigada, said Marie Benito, deputy director of the Department of Revenue and Taxation.
