Regional ‘tourism executive training workshop’ assists Vanuatu


Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO) trade, events and marketing research manager, Sebastien Bador, says a recent regional tourism executive training workshop held in Nadi, Fiji, was a good opportunity to meet and work with other Pacific islands tourism stakeholders. He said the opportunity allowed him to share views and experiences on tourist demographics, activities, challenges and opportunities that gave him a better understanding of “our competitors’ assets and weaknesses”.

Niue registers big climb in tourist numbers


Tourism operators in Niue may be able to access cheap loans to expand their accommodation facilities as the country’s push to grow the sector gathers momentum.

The island’s tourism co-ordinator Hayden Porter says there is also talk of a seasonal labour scheme to ease any potential worker shortage as more tourists arrive.

Police recruitment increases due to increase in law and order problems in PNG


Law and order problems continue to inhibit true growth potential in business and tourism in Papua New Guinea.

And, one of the main reasons given for this, is the lack of police recruitment in the last decade.

Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill highlighted this in his independence day address, on Monday.

The government of Pitcairn Island is hoping for a forty percent boost in the number of tourists once a new jetty is built.The islanders have started preparatory work on the three million US dollar project being funded by the European Union.

ASG to get HA frequent flyer miles for govn’t travel


A new policy that goes into effect next month calls for all government employees whose travel is paid by an ASG travel authorization (TA), and who are traveling on Hawaiian Airlines, will have those “frequent flyer” miles deposited into a corporate account to assist off-island travel for patients seeking medical treatment or students attending educational programs.

Tourism body reaffirms marketing commitment


A REGIONAL tourism body has reaffirmed its commitment in selling the Pacific as an ideal holiday destination.

The South Pacific Tourism Organisation, with funding from the EU, reiterated its commitment to developing tourism at its Pacific Regional Tourism Capacity Building Program held at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa yesterday.
