Stockbridge High School robotics students hope to raise $45,000 for third Palau exhibition


Stockbridge High School’s Advanced Underwater Robotics Team hopes a third trip to the western Pacific Ocean island of Palau is in its future.Team members have made trips to the region in 2012 and 2013 and used underwater robotic devices they’ve built to search for the remains of missing American World War II airmen.

Students recommend ideas to boost tourism


AS a result of the break-out session and group activity held by about 350 students during the Marianas Tourism Education Council summit on Wednesday, a lot of ideas that may enhance the CNMI tourism industry were proposed and discussed.

The participants broke into several groups consisting of high school and elementary students from various schools.

Improper behavior reported at school bus interchange


During the first month of this school year, Department of Public Works officials responded to four incidents of improper student behavior at the new location of the bus interchange.The Agana Shopping Center has been providing its facilities to Public Works as the busing hub for private school students and students of the new government charter school.

Boys and Girls Club hosts “Open House” today


The Boys and Girls Club of American Samoa is hosting an “Open House” today at their clubhouse on the Tafuna Airport Road from 2p.m. – 5p.m.

The event is a celebration that aims to promote the importance of after school programs that “keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning.”

Canada World Youth piloting project at Torgil RTC


For the first time this year, eight young Canadians from the Canada World Youth were selected to participate in a joint project with the Vanuatu Rural Development Training Centers’ Association (VRDTCA).

The group has been working with the Torgil Rural Training Centre (RTC) on East Ambae to build a new school canteen and set up its financial management system.

Village youths commit to farming effort


A GROUP formed two years ago to boost interest in farming is bearing fruit.The formation of Cagivou Farmers Association in Kiuva Village, Bau, Tailevu has seen the young generation utilising their land and using their time well.Compared to the attitude of the young generation 10 years ago, the association says there has been a major change in the mind-set of youths.

New library for children of Kiribati opened


A new library for the children of Kiribati has opened its doors this week.

The library at the AMAK Building in Bikenibeu was first identified as a need for the children during last year’s visit to the island nation by the Australia Governor General, Quentin Bryce.
